Robin Williams in "Good Morning Vietnam" ft. Louis Armstrong - What A Wo...

Taken from a friends FB page :-
"Depression is NOT a choice. It's a disease. Maybe Robin Williams will be our saviour. Maybe his death will be our voice. Yes, you leave behind those who grieve but you have no idea the private hell people with depression have. Each one is different. Each one fights alone help or no help. Drugs mask but never cure. Doctors give advice but never cure. People with depression have to be stronger mentally and sometimes you just get tired of the mental fight. Because it never stops. You're awake you fight. You're asleep you fight. It's never done. I would take the physical punishment over the mental punishment because mental never shuts down. Ever. So do not tell me it's a choice because it's not. Sheesh."

I like Owls, a lot.
Collect plates with pictures of them and have said plates lining my flats deep stair well - so, this delights me ...

Peter, Paul & Mary - Puff, the Magic Dragon!

I remember this little song from when young, my Mother & I use to sing along to it.
But I never really listened to the lyrics, or understood the significance of last verses which tell of when childhood innocence is gone, till much later - then, poor Puffs fate brought a sentimental tear to my eyes and still does when heard.
This recording is from 1966...

Starry Starry Night!

The paintings of Vincent Van Gogh set to Don McLean's 'Starry Starry Night'...

I've always admired the artists works & loved the wistful song, so this video combining both so cleverly together, is a touching delight to me.

Michael Jackson - 'Captain Eo'!

It's seven months since Michael Jackson known as the "King of Pop" died.
At the time I recalled seeing several times the Disney production 'Captain Eo' @ Disneyland Paris.
I've now found it on YouTube

The full version of this 1986 short film, including the song 'We Here To Change The World'.
The movie tells the story of Captain EO and the ragtag crew of his spaceship on a mission to deliver a gift to a wicked alien queen, the Supreme Leader, on her home world of rotting, twisted metal ...

Sound of Music - My Favourite Things!

Maggie & Mitch & their Mom, friend Sue reminded me today of 'The Sound of Music' - a favourite film we share.
I envy them their CD, as not one in my collection.
As one of my previous Blogs meme was 'My Favourite Things', based on the films song, sung by Julie Andrews, I am particularly taken with this video version - hope they like it too as posted for them...

The Snowman!

After building my own snowman yesterday, I was reminded of the timeless 1982 animated Christmas classic from Raymond Briggs, about a little boy who builds a snowman, that takes him on an adventure one snowy night...

And, while researching You Tube for the above, I also came a cross this curio, taken from a morning TV programme - Aled Jones, as a young chorister had great success with the the Snowman's theme tune 'Walking in the Air' and unlike many young choir boys fortunately retained his clear voice when it broke as a teenager [I'll also add he kept his youthful good looks & his faith too]...

Breakfast @ Tiffany's!

Hearing a few cords of the wistful song 'Moon River' on the radio, sent me in search of a favourite film, 'Breakfast @ Tiffinys' [1961] staring Audrey Hepburn @ her most delightful as Holly Golightly.

Struggling writer Paul Varjak [George Peppard] moves into a New York apartment building on Manhattan's swank East Side and becomes intrigued by his pretty, quirky neighbor Holly Golightly.

Holly's lifestyle confuses and fascinates him. In public she flits through parties with a sexy, sophisticated air, but when they're alone she changes into a sweetly vulnerable girl. Totally madcap, she has a partially furnished apartment, owns a cat with no name, gets rid of the "mean reds" by visiting Tiffany's jewellery store...A light-hearted comedy & romantic drama in one, it's never lost its charm to me.

Gerry Rafferty - Bakers Street!

My post for today's Saturday Photo Hunt's prompt Music, reminded me of this 1970's track.
As I only have it on vinyl, I rarely listen to 'Bakers Street' now but I still think it's a great song & I love the saxaphone, and this video is very well put together...

We Shall Remember Them!

'In Flanders Fields', is perhaps the most famous poem from WWI, is by Canadian Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae.
A doctor in charge of a field hospital, he saw his friend killed during the Second Battle of Ypres, he is reputed to have written the poem the very next day in 1915.
Poppies would have been a familar sight to him, as they grew in great numbers in the spoiled soil of the battlefields & in the cemeteries of Flanders.
The second poem in the video, is a well known excerpt from 'For the Fallen' by Laurence Binyon.

Bobby Goldsboro - Honey!

As today is my late Mother's birthday, a very favourite song of hers from 1968...

It's deeply sentimental lyrics always made tears prick our eyes when we listened to 'Honey' together, and it does even more so now I listen alone.

Ram Jam - Black Betty!

As I seem to have a bit of a thing going here, re posting music to match the TCT colour of the week, there is only one choice for today's BLACK, as I remember bopping to it when it first came out back in 1977.
And, I really love the psychedelic colours of this version...
